What to Expect in Your First Personal Training Session

In short

Your first session is an assessment plus a gentle introductory workout, not a fitness test you can fail. We take your history and goals, check how you move, and coach a light first workout so you leave knowing what to expect and how to prepare for the next one.

The first session is the one people worry about most, usually for no reason. You are not being tested, timed or pushed to exhaustion. It is a calm, private conversation and an easy introductory workout, designed so we understand your body and you understand how we work, nothing more intimidating than that.

Most people walk out of the first session pleasantly surprised. The dread beforehand rarely matches the reality, which is a relaxed hour with someone whose whole job is to make this straightforward for you. By the end you will know your starting point, have a clear next step, and feel a lot less nervous about the weeks ahead.

What actually happens, step by step

  1. A relaxed chat about your goals, history and any aches or old injuries
  2. A few simple movement checks to see how your body moves today
  3. A gentle, coached introductory workout at an easy level
  4. A short talk through what a normal session and plan will look like
  5. A clear recommendation on frequency and next steps

What to bring and wear

Keep it simple: comfortable clothes you can move in, supportive shoes, and a water bottle. A small towel is handy in our heat. There is nothing to prepare and no need to get fit first, that is literally what the sessions are for.

You will not be judged or pushed

Whatever your starting point, we have coached someone starting from there, often further back. The first session is deliberately easy on purpose; going too hard on day one just leaves you sore and put off. We would much rather you finish thinking you could have done more than dreading session two.

After the first session

We will explain what we saw, recommend a sensible training frequency, and agree the setting that suits you, centre, home or condo gym. You are never locked into anything on day one; the goal of the first session is simply to give you the information and confidence to start properly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be fit before my first session?+

No, and that is the whole point. The first session meets you exactly where you are. Many clients start after years of doing nothing, we plan the introductory workout to suit that.

Will the first session leave me really sore?+

We keep the first workout deliberately easy, so you should feel worked but not wrecked. Going too hard on day one is counterproductive; we would rather build up sensibly from a comfortable start.

What should I bring?+

Comfortable clothes, supportive shoes, a water bottle and a small towel. That is it. There is nothing to prepare beforehand and no forms to memorise, just turn up ready to move a little.

Am I committing to a package on day one?+

No. The first session is about understanding your body and showing you how we work. We will recommend next steps, but you are free to decide afterwards without any pressure.
